Boutique Sri Lanka (BSL)

Ellerton Bungalow

Ellerton was built 100 years ago in the delightful, hilly centre of Sri Lanka just 45mins outside Kandy, the traditional seasonal escape route from the coastal humidity for colonial settlers and their families. The original Main House with its 2/3 spacious bedrooms has been joined, just 300 yds away, by newly built Valley House with a further 3 /4 bedrooms. Here hot sunny days and refreshingly cool evenings offer the best of the Island's weather. The beautiful gardens are full of colourful flowers, birds and butterflies, a large kitchen garden area supplying vegetables and fruit for the table and an infinity edged swimming pool. As this is fed from the estate's own bore hole it is almost chemical free. Main House has been preserved and refurbished to blend the charming colonial character with modern convenience. It is home to the English owners when in Sri Lanka so the style is relaxed, comfortable, "˜country house'. The large sitting room is furnished with antiques, oriental rugs and comfortable armchairs and sofas. Books and magazines are to hand and tv, music, games and cards. The dining room seats 12 and a library/study has international satellite tv for keeping up with world events. Valley House is near the swimming pool and as the name suggests has magnificent views for 20 miles or more down the valley, especially from the huge veranda where you may choose to have your meals, or simply relax with a book or your thoughts. All the rooms have high ceilings and overhead fans which is quite adequate for comfort in this hill country climate.

Rooms

Stay in beautifully designed private residences offering spacious bedrooms, modern bathrooms, and a peaceful setting. With stylish interiors and comfortable living spaces, each house provides a relaxing retreat for families and groups.

Dining

Meals may be taken in the elegant dining room, in the open sided pavilion of Main House with its stunning views or on the veranda of Valley house. The key words are informality and flexibility. Western dishes and Sri Lankan curries are prepared by the resident chef using fresh produce from the gardens or nearby markets and most reasonable requests will be met with a smile. The Valley House has a fridge, microwave, toaster and tea and coffee making facilities for guests wishing to make their own breakfasts. Lunch and dinner is inclusive of drinks; fruit juices or local alcohol - beer, gin, whisky and mixers. Wines are not available in-house but you are welcome to bring your own to the table. House water is from the bore hole and enjoyed by the owners, but bottled water may be requested by the cautious.
