Boutique Sri Lanka (BSL)

Coco Tangalla

A pretty 1910 colonial beach house nestling beside Tangalle Bay has been restored to a luxurious standard by British expats Tim Jacobson. His wide knowledge of the country influenced them to settle in this undisturbed southern tip of Sri Lanka where the wide sandy beaches and cool sea breezes make for easy living.

Coco Tangalla builds upon the stunning portfolio of Tim's hotels and fantastic management team. They have recently worked their magic on the elegant surroundings, with a newly refurbished villa and gardens.

What's more they have just secured another fabulous chef and we are confident that Coco Tangalla will become the "place to eat " for realy foodies on the South Coast.

The hotel may be rented as individual rooms or in its entirety to offer complete privacy. Coconut and palm trees sandwich the house and beach whilst the pretty frontage opens onto the coastal road. Much new building and refurbishment has taken place in 2011 including the construction of a salt water swimming pool and a large dining terrace.

Coco Tangalla lies close to a rocky outcrop but is just 4kms from a quiet beach with perfect surfing and swimming, 9 acres of gardens peppered with sun loungers for silent sun worshippers.

Rooms

This elegant black-and-white beachfront villa offers an intimate and luxurious coastal retreat, where contemporary comfort meets timeless charm. Thoughtfully decorated with vibrant fabrics, curated artwork, and unique crafts collected from around the world, the property creates a warm and inviting atmosphere that feels more like a private home than a hotel. All rooms are air-conditioned and feature ensuite bathrooms, premium amenities, and calming views of the surrounding tropical landscape and ocean.

A stunning black and white beach house set down from the coastal road.

The rear of the property is the focal point and its breezy verandah looks out to the ocean. Bright and bold cotton fabrics are used imaginatively in the upholstery and bed linen to bring "prana" (life) to the house. A wonderful collection of art nouveau canvasses and crafts/costumes from various continents enliven the pristine white walls.

A central ‘cosy’ living area opens on to a large TV room and library. Traditional white arches and attractive mouldings break up the high ceilings. All 6 luxurious rooms are air-conditioned. All 6 luxurious rooms are air-conditioned

In the Main house, there are 4 bedrooms (3 Deluxe & 1 Standard) , which differ in design and colours giving a sense of individuality, and the feeling of staying in a home. All have ensuite bathrooms with shower, as well as a basin, WC and bidet. One of these rooms has Twin Beds.

Adjacent to the main house are two more bedrooms. These can interconnect by a short passageway, making them an ideal combination for a family. The larger bedroom has its own private verandah over looking the sea, with a large beanch seat covered in cushions and dining. There is a large ensuite bathroom with rain-shower, as well as double-basin WC and bidet. The other bedroom has Twin Beds, connecting into a large party outdoor bathroom with shower, as well as a double-basin and WC.

All rooms have mosquito nets but the sea breeze almost makes them redundant.

Dining

Breakfast time offers a tropical or western menu and for dinner a more comprehensive choice is planned, featuring the plentiful sea food of the region but also including meat dishes to satisfy the carnivores. Light lunches are available on the terrace.

The dining area has wonderful views over the verandah, sea and rocks. An attractive Mara table and modern rattan chairs seat 8 comfortably, but should you wish to dine al fresco, you may take advantage of the large, newly completed terrace, also overlooking the sea.
